Sorrow Turned To Joy

Google Image

“A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father.” (John 16:16 NKJV)

20 Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. 21 A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you. (John 16:20:22 NKJV)

Today I am continuing on the topic of peace and joy He offers His children. I wrote earlier about how He offers us His peace and we choose a troubled heart. Then the next post I wrote concerning our joy in the presence of the Lord.

Peace or a Troubled Heart

Joy in the Presence of the Lord

Almost 2,000 years ago the most important event happened since creation. Many in the world are happy right now because they deny this event believing whatever is truth to them is correct, thus they can make a god in their own image. They fool themselves in believing they may do away with the consequences of sin and live life for earthly pleasures. But this happiness will come to an end. Anytime our happiness is based on this world and not God, it will come to an end.

In the verses above Jesus was telling His disciples they would experience sorrow, but their sorrow would be turned to joy which no one would take away. In John 16:16-22 Jesus was talking about His death, burial and resurrection. Some believe “and again a little while, and you will see Me,” (John 16:16) refers to the day of Pentecost and others believe it refers to the second coming. Whatever the case may be, what Jesus did almost 2,000 years ago is the most important event in history. Jesus paid for our sins! As the apostles’ sorrow was turned to joy when they saw the resurrected Jesus, we may also have joy in His resurrection. We will stand before God with every sin we committed washed clean, that is if we have come to the cross for forgiveness. Because of this, no matter what suffering we are experiencing, it is only temporary. Even if our suffering lasts the rest of our lives, it is only temporary.

What great joy it is to know our sins are forgiven of us. When we are suffering we should look up and say “thank you Jesus, I am saved!” No one can take our salvation away, so let us rejoice because our names are written in Lambs Book of Life. Let us boldly go through life praising our Lord and Savior and experience His joy. Let us rejoice in what we have instead of morning about what we do not have.

  3. We get so wrapped up in life that we forget it is only temporal. Like you said, even if our pain/trials last the rest of our lives, it's nothing compared to eternity. Our joy will be complete someday soon.

  4. "you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy"...This brings to mind the song lyrics: "And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace!" This is another awesome word of hope, Ken. Blessings!

  6. Dear Ken,

Thank you for all that you share here. Although I don't always leave a comment I love reading your blogs.

Thank you for the encouraging comments you leave on my posts. They mean more to me than you know.

You're a wonderful servant of Christ Jesus.

By the way, I also love the comments you leave for others. I was reading your comment on Crystal Mary's last post.

"So the last will be first, and the first last." That is my son Jaiden's (8 years) favourite Scripture and has been since he was five.

We read the story of the Vineyard Workers often.

May you and your loved ones be blessed this Easter weekend! May Christ’s message of eternal life fill you with love.

    @Vilisi- YES, thank you Jesus!

@Clint- He has given us so much, let us not dwell on what we do not have.

@Child of God- Yes, life is just a vapor which appears for a short while and then vanishes away. Lets live it for the Glory of God.

@Lisa- Very temporary when compaired to eternity. Lets not let the cares of this world distract us from the eternal.

@Karen- I love that song, but I have not heard in awhile. It is a very fitting song.

@Lioneagle- You are welcome. Yes, to God be the glory.

@Kerrie- Thank you so very much for your words of encouragement. I appreciate it very much.

I pray the Lord bless each and everyone of you this weekend as we celebrate the resurrected Christ and remember what He did for us.

  8. Ken, what a great reminder your message is to us all. All that we endure here is only for a season and God will help strengthen us the whole way and still give us his peace. I love your direct and simple way of getting the solid truth out there. And it also helps me to see all that Christ took you through! He will surely do the same for me. God bless you, Ken, for your faithfulness! I am always praying for you.
