Witnessing after Church

A few weeks ago I did a post titled “Jehovah Witnesses at the Door.” I intended on showing them Jesus was the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, but I was not prepared, thus I searched in the wrong chapter of Revelation. Since that time, I memorized where they are and formed a game plan. Today it paid off during a witnessing encounter when two friends and I went knocking on doors after church.

We went to an apartment complex going door to door. Most people were not much interested but took the tracts we offered and were quick to shut the door. Then we knocked on this one door to find a young woman who would listen to what we said. My two friends were doing the talking at first while I listened. Then she made the remark “I was raised as a Jehovah Witness.” My eyes light up wanting to challenge her from Revelation. So I spoke up and asked “do you believe Jesus is God?” Her reply was, “no, He is not God.” I then opened up the Bible and had her read “ 'I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End', says the Lord, 'who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.' ” (Rev 1:10 NKJV) Then I asked “who is the Alpha and the Omega?” She and I agreed that it was God (Jehovah God). Then I had her read while asking herself this question, “when did Jehovah die.” (Rev 1:17b-18) “I am the First and the Last. 18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore.” She hit me with “see it only says the First and the Last.” I respond "now let’s go to the last chapter of Revelation and read:” 12 “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” 14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. 15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie. 16I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.” (Rev 22:12-16 NKJV) I pointed out to her it says “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last and Jesus is the one speaking here.” She did not know what to say to that except “I am going to have to look into it.” My friend added to the conversation something even more powerful to her when he asked “do you know that Emmanuel means God with us?” This was an eye opener for her. This young woman was not a practicing Jehovah Witness, but she still believed what they taught was the truth. She was going the way of the world. Most Jehovah Witnesses will not take the literature Christians offer, but she did.

Last night I found an article from Dr Ron Carlson who wrote a noticeably similar strategy for witnessing to Jehovah Witnesses. I think it would have been better using his example, except I did not have it down yet, so I used what I already planned.
You may read it here (christianministriesintl) if you like. It will not take much time.

I would like to encourage everyone to get out and share your faith with the lost. Every time I do, I am blessed beyond measure. My friend Sandra at Lions Share Majesty wrote a post the other day concerning witnessing to the lost. I encourage you to go on over and give it a read if you have not. She gave an uncomplicated way to reach out to the lost.

  3. That is a great witness Ken!!! I actually studied with the JW's for 2 years when I was younger. At first I believed what they taught because I didn't have enough understanding myself at the time. Later God showed me their error.God Bless Ken.

  4. Hi Ken,
Thanks for this post and your sweet obedience in obey God and spreading His word. Door to door, way to go!!

Thanks for all of this research, I will read the information on the link you put up and study these verses you have here. You definitely found something to stump the JW's, now maybe a practicing or serious JW might have had a come back but what a great step this is and I think it is wonderful how God is encouraging you.

After your last post we had JW's come to my place. My husband and I invited them in and had a good conversation with them. My husband is a doctor, so he brought up the issue of blood, since JW's don't believe in having blood transfusions. He told them that out of respect for them and their belief he does what he can to avoid a transfusion, even to the point of sending the patient into the states to a hospital that has blood free surgery.
We then talked about 1 Corinthians 8:12-13
12 When you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall.
Saying if blood causes you to sin, then I don't want, because of your belief, to make you stumble. They really respected this, which was again another layer peeled off of them. We figured if we took away their outer defenses, then we might have a bit of ground to work with them the next time they came by. We ended with hubby saying, before you go let's pray. Well, you should have seen the sparks fly between their eyes, (there were two of them), when we prayed in Jesus' name. They didn't bow their heads or say amen. But that's ok, I believe God is working with them.

Great post and thanks for sharing and letting me know.

    Blessings bro,

  8. Hi Ken -

It so charged my spirit to read that you witness after church. Do you know many people who do that?
    I love it, Ken!

Great, too, that our Lord provided the opportunity for you to witness to the woman who is no longer in fellowship with the JW's. You were ready because you purposed to be prepared. I salute you, dear brother in Christ. And I thank GOD for your heart for Him and for His precious souls.

I did read the link that you referenced. It was quite helpful.

Thank you, Ken, also for referencing my blog.

  9. Thank you Ken for sharing scriptures that may be effective in helping Jehovah Witnesses to see that their theology doesn't line up with scripture. Thanks for sharing the links too!
