Children of God

For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.” (Matthew 12:50 NKJV)

Some people may feel that this passage of scripture is disrespectful to Mary, the mother of Jesus. However, Jesus was, (is) so much more than her son. Jesus is the Messiah, God incarnate, who came from heaven to earth to pay for the sins of all those who would believe. The good news is that this Jesus desires a close and personal relationship with each of us. Then there is even more good news:

12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
(John 1:12-13 NKJV)

What an awesome thing that a holy, majestic, all knowing and powerful God who created the heavens and earth pursues a personal relationship us and receives sinners into His family. For those who are the children of God, He will cast our sins as far away as east is from the west and make us into a new creation.

“Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the Lord,
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool.
(Isaiah 1:18 NKJV)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)

Is this disrespectful to Mary? Not, but good news to her and all who believe upon the Son of God. What an amazing blessing, isn't it? However, one must be in Christ Jesus to receive such a blessing.

  3. Hi Ken,
It is such a blessing and a privilege to be called a child of God. You said, What an awesome thing that a holy, majestic, all knowing and powerful God who created the heavens and earth pursues a personal relationship us and receives sinners into His family. This is a statement that does so many things to me. It melts my heart, gives me great joy, humbles me, makes me extremely happy. The Father of the universe, the Creator of all pursues us!!!

I once heard a sermon that talked about Jesus' love for us and the pastor said something along the lines of, 'Jesus loves you so much that He holds on to your ankles because He loves you so much, He doesn't want to loose you so He pursues you with a love that is so powerful how could you resist.' Now, I know that is not Biblical but the visual picture it gave me melted my heart and I bawled like a baby while I sat in that church. I was so full of love and joy.

Jesus, there is no other name that turns my heart to jelly.

Thanks for sharing Ken, love it.

  4. Hi Ken,

I don't think He was denying His responsibility or His love for His mother, but rather teaching us that our spiritual relationships are just as important as our physical ones. It is such a wonderful privilege and great blessing that we inherit as a blessed child of God!

    Love the verses you referenced!
    Blessings and love good friend,
    Denise

  5. Lovely post Ken, lovely scriptures. The new creation is spiritual, led by the word of the Lord. The old fleshly creation is dead in sin, no matter who it is in the world.

    1. Thank you Brenda, I appreciate your comment. This morning I was thinking about how awesome it will be when we step into heaven and all this sin will be gone. Never to sin again. Here on earth, it is a wonderful thing that we are growing and He gives us victory over the sin in our lives. We never reach the point where we do not sin, but we become more like Jesus and keep growing. May God bless you.

  7. I just love those scriptures!

I find it hard to believe more people would not be interested in becoming a new creation. Too many want to try to change themselves over and over again, to no avail.
all they have to do is to repent, and ask Jesus to be their savior, and they would have a fresh new start, and recieve a new spirit within them as well.
I am also glad that God renews his mercy each morning! (lamentations 3:22,23)
This post was a word in due season for me...Thanks Ken.

    1. Lisa, me too, I am so glad His mercies are new every morning. It is so awesome being a child of God. I am with you, why does so many people reject the such an opportunity as becoming a child of God? But, I did for many years. Praise God, He brought me into a right relationship with Him. Now I pray that others come to faith in Christ. Thank you for your comment and God bless,

  9. I like the way you explain some of the passages that seem confusing...There are many that I guess I would have to understand the culture and setting: like the woman who asked to be healed, and she begged, Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the rich man's table. Sometime, I would like for you to comment on that passage.

    1. Thank you Karen for the suggestion. I think that will be an excellent topic for a post. I have a couple topics rolling around in my head for my next weeks post, but, Lord willing, I will address that one shortly. A couple days ago in my study time, that passage of scripture came to mind. Now you brought it up, so maybe the Lord wants me to address it.
      Great suggestion and God bless,
      Ken

  10. Such encouraging writing. My sins--all of them--made white of snow through the blood of Jesus. And He accepts me as a daughter. Makes my heart sing!

  11. If we accept God as one personal savior and do what he ask that's the time we can claim that we are a children of God.
