Plant Me by the Rivers of Water

Like a Tree Planted by the Waters...

1 Blessed is the man

Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,

Nor stands in the path of sinners,

Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,

And in His law he meditates day and night.

3 He shall be like a tree

Planted by the rivers of water,

That brings forth its fruit in its season,

Whose leaf also shall not wither;

And whatever he does shall prosper.

(Psalm 1:1-3)

If I were a tree with a choice as to where I was planted, where would I choose?

    A. By the rivers of water.

    B. Out in the middle of the desert.

As Christians, why is it so much of the time we desire to be out in the desert just close enough to the river for a sip of water every now and again?

I do not know about you, but I want to be healthy and bear much fruit in the Lord. When the trials and temptations come my way I want to be grounded in truth so the wind does not blow me away.

4 The ungodly are not so,

But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.

5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,

Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,

But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

(Psalm 1:4-6)

  1. Wow Ken! Why do we often choose to drink only enough to survive, when God wants to satisfy us, even overwhelm us? Great post!

  2. There is much wisdom in this post Ken....There is something in us that craves being by water. It is so very peaceful, and sometimes even though we are so close we can reach out and touch it, we refuse to drink of it's life-giving streams! Lori

  3. Hi Ken,
I too want to be fruitful so I need to submerge myself in His Word, and drink of the Living Water.

    Good reminder and wonderful declaration.

    Blessings,

  6. Hi Ken, Thank you for visiting my blog..I see we are on the same page with the concept of water
( God is the fountain of living water) being necessary to sustain our spirits. My husband told me recently that I didn't drink enough water to maintain my health; could it be that the Lord is reminding us of our need to drink in more of His living water to be more spiritually fruitful?
I love that Psalm. My children used to sing it when they were small.

  8. One of my favorite verses I wish it was more taught in churches because if we really and truly known the truth and understanding of those verses we would completely stand for Righteousness. Praise God

  11. Hi Ken,
I have heard from bloggers who were without water during Hurricane Katrina and other catastrophes, even though there were flood waters all around them. We want to drink from streams of "living water" by staying close to Jesus. Thanks for your insights and encouragement!

  13. The psalm you quoted on this post is one of my favorites.

And like you, I want to be planted by rivers of water, where I will never run dry.

You always have a way of sharing your insights that really touch our hearts. I believe it is your honesty and deep hunger to know God more...

    Blessings on another week,
    Lidj

  14. Hi Ken,

Just hopped over to your blog after reading your comment on mine. Thank you. I would not have checked yours out tonight had you not done that. What you have written here I definitely needed to here. Why do I just get close enough to sip every now and again? I ask myself that a lot. Thank you for making me think.

    blessings in HIM...Chelle

  16. I love this verse I did a teaching on this very scripture breaking each verse down to how it relates to us as people. Many times we end up reading the word but don't know what it means but if we study God's word and see what it means one would be very careful as to not break His word.

    Great post
