In The Time of Need

The name of the LORD is a strong tower;
The righteous run to it and are safe.
(Proverbs 18:10NKJV)

I want the rest of my life to be smooth sailing, so to speak. I hate problems; I do not want any trials or tribulations in my life. None, not one, zero, zip, nada! But we all know life has its ups and downs. We all have our struggles. Some situations are more troublesome than others. One minute we might be thinking, “All is well,” then the next minute life is turned upside down. All that it takes is a slip in the bath tub or some criminal entering your home and life is not the same.

While I do not like the idea of terrible things happening, I believe one should predetermine how we should respond in the event of something does go wrong. For example, learn to administer first aid. At work, we have an emergency evacuation plan in the event of an emergency. Throughout the world, we have fire and rescue teams to come to the aid of people in need. Here in America we dial 911 in the event of an emergency for the proper people to respond to our needs.

While it is wise to prepare as mentioned above, there is only so much these things can do to help. We must also know who our strong tower is. We need to know: “the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!” (2 Timothy 4:18 NKJV) No matter how unbearable this situation is that we may be facing, we know the Lord will bring us through it. He will not drop the ball. This thing will come to an end. No matter what we are facing, nothing can separate us form the love of God or remove our home in heaven awaiting us. All my brothers and sisters in Christ, let’s be predetermined to run to the Lord the next time, and every time something goes wrong in our lives. We must remember there is protection under the shadow of His wing. (See Psalm 91).

  1. Oooh! it sure would be nice wouldn't it Ken, a nice smooth journey, but how would we grow without those 'bumps' in the road!

Praise God we have someone who we can run to, who knows our every need, even before we ask, and who will shelter us during the storms.

    Great poost, Ken.

  2. How I hate stumbling blocks and problems too, and will do everything I can to avoid them! However I know that God is in complete control of every situation, and has promised to
work all things out for good; He is bigger than any of our problems or fears. :)

    Blessings Ken! :)

  3. Only when we are suffering in trials, we can learn to fully depend on God. Yes no doubt sometimes I feel weary that I have to keep standing on the storm, I know that this is the time that Jesus wants to break me and I will glorify Him alone even through hard times. :D

  4. Hi Ken,
I believe fear of what is happening is a huge stumbling block. The fear of the unknown, how the situation will turn out, is what grips and holds us down. Rebuking fear will clear our mind to see that the situation is not really bad at all because God is always right there with us, walking us through.

This is a lesson I learned while my kids were really little and they hurt themselves. It was the fear of the hurt that made them cry. Once they were not fearful they were able to deal with the pain. The bigger the hurt the bigger the fear but once they got into the habit of rebuking fear and focusing on Jesus they are now able to meet these mishaps face on knowing that God will get them through.

I love Psalm 91 and just the thought of protection under the shadow of His wing brings me much comfort and security.

Thanks for praying for me I really appreciate it. :)

  5. Amen! I love the picture of preparedness you paint. When someone is in the middle of a heart attack, that's not the time to learn CPR. If we fill ourselves up with the Word and with Him during the calm, smooth times, then when the rough times come we have a storehouse of promises to pull from to carry us through.

Blessings to you, Ken! It's been too long, it's good to "see" you again! :)

  6. Life without problems would be welcomed, but unrealistic. The Bible tells us that in this world we will have troubles. That's why it's so important to be prepared, as you pointed out.

    Great encouragement, Ken!

  7. What a beautifully clear illustration of how to act in this troublesome, beautiful world. It is good to be prepared, but when all falls aparts, God is the one who holds it all together! Lori
