Wise Words

Source

A soft answer turns away wrath,
But a harsh word stirs up anger.
The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly,
But the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness.
(Proverbs 15:1-2 NKJV)

The words we speak and the way we say them speaks volumes. One may calm an angry soul or pour gasoline on a fire with the words we speak. With our tongue we may lift someone up who is down, or bring a hurt which never heals. With our mouth we may encourage someone to succeed, or leave them feeling as though there is no hope. We may speak words which leads one to Christ, or words which drives them away. What will it be today? Will I speak with wisdom or foolishness? Will I speak with a soft or angry voice?

  1. Thank you for the reminder on the power of our words, to give life or kill someone's spirit.

This evening at Bible study we sang a song I had never heard called "We Are An Offering". As we sang the lyrics, I was thinking, if we would remember each time we speak or raise up our hands and how we live our lives is an offering to God, it might change was we say and do.

    "We lift our voices,
    we lift our hands
We lift our lives up to You
    We are an offering
    Lord use our voices,
    Lord use our hands
    Lord use our lives,
    they are Yours
    We are an offering"

  2. Hi Ken,

It can be so difficult to tame a tongue and to make it a tool for a blessing! But when we meditate on God's words we can deliver words seasoned with grace and full of encouragement and goodness. :)

    Thanks for another wonderful post!
    Blessings and hugs,
    Denise

  3. Hi Ken,

    The power of words!

    Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

This verse is powerful and I wonder if this could be meaning spiritual life and death that we deal out by what we words we choose to use. I choose to plant seeds of life in others.

My husband has said some things to me that have hurt, deeply. I know these things were said in anger and where he was in life at the time. There has been forgiveness but never the less, those words will come to my mind every now and then and that same old feeling of worthlessness come with it. I have to rebuke this because I do know that this is Satan trying to trip me up, but those words are still there lurking in the back ground just waiting to emerge when I am in a moment of weakness.

The words we speak leave ever lasting impressions on those who hear.

Very good message and one that we should always be considering.

    Blessings,
    <><

  4. Thanks, Ken...so true. One measure of where we are in our spiritual journeys is how well we control our emotions and our mouths.

  7. Hi Ken~ very true...our words are powerful and cut like a knife and sometimes they lift us so high we have to look down to see heaven.

I grew up with negativity and doubt. Always hearing that I wasn't good or I was weird or strange. I spent a lot of my time looking for someone to love me or think I was good. It took MANY years for me to realize and understand that God was the father I should be seeking approval from and love from. And no matter what anyone would say I know that our Heavenly Father is the truth and how he has made me is how He wants me. It brings this scripture to mind...

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." Hebrews 4:12-13

Great Message!! Thank you needed it today!
    God Bless :)
